My background before joining Unlimited Potential

Prior to working at Unlimited Potential, I had not long graduated from the University of Salford with a Social Work degree. I felt a little lost having graduated with a degree that required a lot of life experience and I felt a little lacking in that department, only being 21 at the time. Not long after, through a string of fortunate events, I was encouraged to interview for the role of the Health Trainer by a previous colleague at Unlimited Potential, and so started a very positive chapter in my career.

My Role at Unlimited Potential

As a Health Trainer for Unlimited Potential, I was exposed to people from all walks of life, supporting people around their general well-being. This often involved working with people around their mental and physical health, housing and benefit difficulties, drug and alcohol misuse, and supporting them towards employment whenever that was a goal they wanted to achieve. The role was holistic and versatile allowing me to broaden my experiences of supporting others and learn a lot about networking and how other services worked.

What most benefitted me from being with Unlimited Potential and what difference it made to me

Working for Unlimited Potential truly gave me a positive start into my career. I was able to work with forward thinking people from diverse backgrounds who provided me with endless support and opportunities to learn. During my degree, I had specialised in working with children and families. However, my exposure to working with adults in my role swayed my passions towards supporting adults instead, as I felt that a true rapport could be built and I could achieve more good within the adult social care sector.

What I have gone on to do/achieve since I left Unlimited Potential

Since leaving Unlimited Potential, I have gone on to work for a charity for a number of years supporting carers around their rights and ensuring they were receiving the support they were entitled to. Recently, I have gained my first statutory role, and I now work within an Adult Community Social Work team. The job is demanding and complex but, thanks to the experiences I have gained through my career starting at Unlimited Potential, it has given me the confidence and self-belief to thrive in my current role.
