Purpose

To contribute to improving the health and wider well-being of local people through use of person-centred and community-centred approaches.

Activity

With Salford CVS, we developed and drew up the original proposal for Wellbeing Matters, informed by our learning from Realising the Value.

Wellbeing Matters is an overarching, VCSE-led model of ‘social prescribing’, delivered by a partnership of local organisations. Unlimited Potential was one of the five ‘neighbourhood anchors’, covering Eccles, Irlam and Cadishead.

We hosted and employed a community connector, who held strengths-based conversations with adults about what matters to them, in order to identify, plan and arrange appropriate activities and services to achieve their goals.

We also built local networks and contacts with both local organisations and general practices within the neighbourhood.

Impact

An independent evaluation concluded that the evidence showed the beneficial impact that the Wellbeing Matters programme had on enabling people to manage their own decisions and choices through non-medical approaches. The programme also demonstrated significant positive benefits for the wider health and social care sector and communities.

Having been established with the support of Unlimited Potential, Wellbeing Matters became the mainstream social prescribing service for Salford.

Wellbeing Matters was a finalist for the Best Community-based Organisation in Social Prescribing Award in the national Social Prescribing Network Awards 2022.
