Purpose
To shift attitudes and behaviours towards positive masculinity within different age groups. To reduce gender-based violence against women and girls.

Activity
In the first stage of the project (in partnership with Salford Foundation), we sought to reflect and articulate our understanding of how men and boys in Greater Manchester see masculinity and how they think, by engaging with 3,309 boys and men in Bolton and Salford. This identified four key lenses, which are detailed in the Our Lenses report.
The ideas generated were then tested in practice with more boys and men in the two existing areas and also Rochdale Borough and Trafford.
We next intend to make the case for a systemic ‘positive masculinities’ approach at a population-wide level.

Impact
The emerging learning about masculinities from the project suggests wider applicability in at least 12 fields that see a disproportionate impact by or on boys and men. These cover both violence by men against others (especially gender-based violence) and violence by men against themselves.
