Purpose

To provide a holistic and integrated approach to supporting people to increase their self-efficacy in addressing key well-being issues, including both lifestyle and determinants of health and well-being.

Activity

Working as a partnership of social organisations, Being Well Salford used a team of trained health coaches to support people to make positive changes to their health behaviours. They worked with individuals for up to 12 months on a one-to-one or group basis to make changes in: weight; smoking; alcohol intake; activity levels; and mood.

Unlimited Potential also led Shifting the Curve, an innovation sub-project to test how ‘diffusion of innovation’ could be applied for behaviour change.

Impact

Evaluation showed that, after 12 months, nearly half of smokers had quit and a fifth of participants had reduced their weight by more than 5%. 90% of participants improved their mental well-being.

The Being Well Salford partnership won the 3-Year Health and Wellbeing Award from the Royal Society of Public Health and the Minister of Public Health Award 2015.

Our learning from Being Well Salford informed the design of Wellbeing Matters.
