Purpose

To improve the well-being of local people by encouraging and supporting healthy lifestyle choices, as well as supporting people to gain work.

Activity

We established Healthwatch Salford and first took on a stewardship role in relation to its functions and development.

Most Healthwatch activities were initially carried out by the steward (Unlimited Potential), with Healthwatch Salford assuming the responsibilities over time.

The main statutory functions were to:

  • Promote and support the involvement of people in the monitoring, commissioning and provision of local health and social care services.
  • Obtain the views of people about their needs and experience of local health and social care services, and to make those views known.
  • Make reports and make recommendations about how those services could or should be improved.
  • Provide information and advice to the public about accessing health and social care services and the options available to them.
  • Make the views and experiences of people known to Healthwatch England.

When Healthwatch Salford incorporated in 2015, we provided organisational and management support to the new organisation.

Impact

Having been incubated by Unlimited Potential, Healthwatch Salford became an independent social enterprise. It listens to people’s experiences of health and social care and seeks to make sure that NHS and social care leaders listen and use feedback to improve care.
